In case it wasn’t clear enough, New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson reminded her coaching staff on Friday that she’s not pleased with this season’s results.
The Saints are heading into this Sunday’s game against the Giants with a 1-4 record. After coming up with a great comeback win over the Ravens in Week 2, the Saints suffered a second-half collapse against the Raiders, were blown out by the Falcons, and were outcoached by the Vikings in three straight games.
While at the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club Luncheon this week, Benson called out Saints head coach Kellen Moore and general manager Mickey Loomis.
“As the owner, the responsibility does start with me,” Benson said, via Rod Walker of NOLA.com. “I will not make excuses and I will not accept this level of performance as our standard. I am committed to making the decisions necessary to improving this team. Everyone on this organization understands the urgency. We must prepare better, execute consistently and correct mistakes that are costing us the games.”

Benson added, “Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform. Mickey Loomis and our football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. Our players are responsible for their preparation and execution. I am responsible for holding this organization accountable.”
As if that statement wasn’t emphatic enough, Benson showed up to practice Friday to see what the Saints were doing.
“We talked throughout the week, and so we’re all good,” Moore said when asked about Benson attending practice. “We’re all just trying to reach the same goal. We all wanna win football games.”
Is the season on the line for Moore?
Even though Moore only went 6-11 in his first season as the head coach of the Saints, he didn’t receive much backlash since his team finished strong down the stretch.
That being said, Moore has to show improvement in Year 2 if he wants to remain a head coach in the NFL.
If the Saints stroll up to Paris for their Week 7 game with a 1-5 record, he might as well get an early start on packing his bags.
