It’s only Week 4 of the college football season, but it certainly looks like the Rutgers football team has lost support from its fan base.
Rutgers came into Friday’s game against Howard with an 0-3 record. Luckily for the Scarlet Knights, they took care of business and secured a 58-7 win. Dylan Lonergan had a highly efficient performance, completing 12 of 17 passes for 214 yards with two touchdowns. Antwan Raymond was also productive for Rutgers, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries.
Even though Greg Schiano led Rutgers to victory Friday night, he can’t be thrilled about the crowd size in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Right before the Howard-Rutgers game started, a video of SHI Stadium’s crowd size went viral on social media. The venue was mostly empty leading up to kickoff.
“Maybe there is a lot of traffic. Maybe the weather was bad enough to keep people home. Maybe it was the 0-3 start,” Brian Fonseca of NJ Advance Media said. “But there is nobody here at kickoff.”
As Fonseca mentioned, the weather on the East Coast isn’t great this weekend. There’s a rare September nor’easter that’s bringing heavy rainfall and damaging winds to New Jersey and several other states.
Does Rutgers need a new leader?
Rutgers brought back Schiano in 2020 with the intent that he’d revitalize the program, but that just hasn’t happened.
Outside of 7-6 seasons in 2023 and 2023, Schiano has struggled to keep the Scarlet Knights above .500 in the Big Ten.
If Schiano continues to stumble this fall, Rutgers may have to think about replacing him.
