For more than a decade, Russell Wilson was one of the NFL's most recognizable quarterbacks. Whether he was leading the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl championship, earning Pro Bowl selections or producing the kind of late-game heroics that became his trademark, Wilson spent much of his career among the league's biggest stars.

Even as his journey took him through stops in Denver, Pittsburgh and New York, the veteran quarterback remained one of football's most discussed players. Now, after 14 NFL seasons filled with accomplishments, milestones and unforgettable moments, Wilson appears ready for a new challenge.

According to multiple reports, the former Super Bowl champion is making a major career move that will keep him connected to the game while signaling the end of an impressive playing career.

Russell Wilson Makes Career Decision After 14 NFL Seasons

Russell Wilson is officially preparing for life after football.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the former Super Bowl winning quarterback is finalizing a deal to become an analyst for CBS Sports, bringing an end to a remarkable 14-year NFL career.

The move closes the book on one of the most successful quarterback careers of the past decade. Wilson leaves the game as a Super Bowl champion, a 10-time Pro Bowler and a former Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year recipient. He also exits as one of the most productive dual-threat quarterbacks the league has ever seen.

Wilson entered the NFL as a third-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 despite concerns about his height. It did not take long for him to prove doubters wrong.

A Super Bowl Champion's Legacy

After winning the starting job as a rookie, Wilson immediately helped transform Seattle into a championship contender. He led the Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, including a dominant victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. During his decade in Seattle, Wilson became one of the faces of the NFL thanks to his ability to extend plays, deliver deep passes and consistently win games.

By the end of his Seahawks tenure, Wilson had established himself as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in franchise history. He earned nine Pro Bowl selections in Seattle and became synonymous with some of the organization's greatest moments.

His career took a different turn after a blockbuster trade to the Denver Broncos in 2022. The move was expected to keep Wilson among the league's elite quarterbacks, but the partnership never produced the results many anticipated. After two difficult seasons in Denver, Wilson spent 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he earned his 10th Pro Bowl selection before signing with the New York Giants the following year.

Wilson's final NFL season came in New York. While the Giants hoped the veteran could stabilize the position, the season proved to be his last as an active player. After becoming a free agent this offseason, speculation began to grow about his future and whether retirement could be next.

Russell Wilson Begins His Next Chapter

Now that question appears to have been answered.

Rather than continue searching for another opportunity under center, Wilson is reportedly making the jump to television. He will join a CBS Sports pregame crew that already includes respected NFL voices and gives him a platform to remain connected to the game he helped shape for more than a decade.

The transition feels like a natural one. Wilson has long been known as one of the NFL's most polished and recognizable personalities. His leadership style, communication skills and experience at the highest levels of the sport should make him a valuable addition to CBS' coverage.

For football fans, the announcement marks the end of an era.

Wilson's career featured 353 touchdown passes, nearly 47,000 passing yards, a Super Bowl championship and countless memorable moments. From his rise as an overlooked draft pick to becoming one of the NFL's biggest stars, he built a résumé that could eventually earn serious Pro Football Hall of Fame consideration.

His next chapter may take place behind a studio desk rather than behind center, but Wilson's impact on the NFL is already secure.
