Kansas City Royals' manager Matt Quatraro revealed an update on Vinnie Pasquantino's minor league rehab on Thursday, which will soon lead to an interesting decision for the team.
Pasquantino has been out for the Royals and on the 10-day injured list since June 14 with a right hamate fracture.
Pasquantino began a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on July 7. He has played in two games and recorded two hits, one RBI and three walks.
Quatraro said that the 28-year-old first baseman will play in one more rehab game and suggested that he could return to the Royals' lineup as soon as Friday.
The decision for Pasquantino to return on Friday is an interesting one given the All-Star break being a couple days away. With the Royals sitting well out of the playoff race (8 1/2 games back), it might make sense to push Pasquantino's return back so he has a couple more days to heal.
The Royals offense does not appear to need much help right now after scoring 33 runs in their past three games against the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets.
Unfortunately, Pasquantino did not provide the Royals much offense in the first place to start the season.
In 68 games played, Pasquantino is slashing .224/.309/.350, a .659 OPS, with six home runs, 32 RBIs and 10 doubles.
It is important not to rush back the Team Italy captain when he is already struggling like this.
In his return, he will hope to return to his 32 home run and .798 form from the 2025 season.
