Whether you're a beginner golfer or someone who's been playing the game for a couple of decades, there's a good chance that you're obsessed with gaining distance off the tee.

After all, who the hell doesn't want to flex some muscle and impress their playing partners by outdriving them?

Problem is, most average golfers have no idea where to start when it comes to generating more clubhead speed or power for added yardage.

But thanks to 5-time major champion Rory McIlroy, you can get some pro-level golf tips to try and work your way towards farther tee shots. Check out the video below for McIlroy's advice (courtesy of TaylorMade's YouTube channel).

Rory McIlroy's Golf Tips for More Power off the Tee

One of the most impressive things about Rory McIlroy's golf game is his ability to absolutely crush the golf ball. Look no further than driving distance stats from last year, where McIlroy averaged a whopping 323 yards off the tee — placing him second on Tour in that category.

So if you're looking for more distance, getting advice from the 36-year-old PGA superstar is a wise choice — and it all starts with his setup.

"One of the things a lot of amateurs could do better is [improving] their setup with the driver," McIlroy says.

He then explains that, by upgrading your golf setup, you can learn how to swing up on the ball for a more maximized tee shot.

"A lot of people setup to a driver like they setup to an iron," he adds. "That isn't really the best position to start from if you want to create both speed and power in your golf swing."

So what's the proper setup look like for a driver? The 5-time major champ explains.

"I always try to get people to setup and have the ball a little further forward in the stance, lining it up with the inside of the [lead foot's] heel," McIlroy instructs. "Then try to angle yourself a little bit away from the target, which will help you hit up on the golf ball to optimize your launch and spin."

The best part about this tip? You don't necessarily have to add more club speed for more distance. Just having things in the proper position can be enough to get the added driver distance you crave.

"Even if you don't add any speed to your golf swing, [these small setup tweaks] will help you hit the ball a little bit farther," McIlroy says. "That's because you want to try and hit the driver on the upswing with an ascending blow, which should help your drives get out there a little bit farther."

As Rory McIlroy demonstrates his driver setup and swing in the video, he doubles down on the tips from above, ensuring the ball is "quite far up in the stance," while using a little tilt back and away from the target.

Finally, McIlroy then maintains those positions and tries to hit up on the ball at impact — which helps the ball launch high with reduced spin.

While you or me can't expect to drill it 300+ yards like Rory does, at the very least, his golf tips can help create a better, more structured golf swing that adds a little more length off the tee.
