Roman Reigns has revealed the unusual food his family jokingly called “Samoan steroids,” recalling a hilarious piece of advice about gaining weight and building a bigger backside. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion shared the story while reflecting on his Samoan roots and family traditions.
During his recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Reigns also discussed his wrestling legacy, his football career at Georgia Tech, his battle with leukemia, and his transition into Hollywood. He is currently promoting “Street Fighter,” in which he plays Akuma, alongside a cast that includes Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, and 50 Cent.
When the conversation turned to his family’s unusual advice, “The OTC” explained how mayonnaise became known as their “Samoan steroids.” He compared the old-school joke to the cosmetic procedures associated with celebrities such as the Kardashians, before delivering the punchline.
“I never got into this, but a lot of my family— I wonder if other Samoan families are like this but a lot of mayonnaise, a lot of it (really) yes. And my family would tell you this is all they used to always say it’s the Samoan steroids. That’s what the in the before like the Kardashians all the butt jobs, Eat some mayonnaise. You get some, you want some booty? You need some (expletive)? Eat some mayonnaise.”

Reigns was joking about his relatives’ advice, not claiming mayonnaise works like actual steroids. He also made clear that he never personally got into the habit.
Roman Reigns Could Address Sami Zayn Rivalry During WWE RAW Return

Reigns is scheduled to return to Monday Night RAW on October 19 in San Diego, California, following his successful World Heavyweight Championship defense against LA Knight at Money in the Bank. His appearance comes ahead of his singles match for the 2026 WWE Crown Jewel Championship against Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn at Crown Jewel on November 7.
The upcoming showdown reunites two former allies whose relationship fell apart during Reigns’ original Bloodline run. Zayn joined the group as its Honorary Uce in 2022, gradually earning Reigns’ trust before refusing to take part in the attack on Kevin Owens at the 2023 Royal Rumble. Reigns and The Usos subsequently turned on Zayn, setting off a feud that culminated in Zayn challenging Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber in February 2023.
The two have since taken very different paths, but their shared history adds another layer to their Crown Jewel match. “The OTC” could address that past when he returns to the Monday Night Show, particularly with the championship showdown approaching.
Beyond wrestling, Roman Reigns is also preparing for Street Fighter’s theatrical release on October 16. His upcoming RAW appearance and Crown Jewel match will bring him back into the spotlight as he continues balancing his WWE career with his growing acting commitments.
