The Colorado Rockies are playing the San Diego Padres on Thursday night. During the game, however, Rockies All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman suffered a finger injury. According to Patrick Saunders, Goodman exited the game.
"#Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman, who was hit by a pitch, comes out of the game. His finger was bleeding when he was pulled," Saunders reported.
According to Thomas Harding, Goodman was diagnosed with a right middle finger laceration.
Goodman was visibly frustrated after getting hit by the pitch. Patrick Lyons shared a video of Goodman's reaction after the incident.
The Rockies and Padres are currently tied 1-1. Colorado has out-performed expectations so far this season. The ball club would love to upset their National League West rival on Thursday night. Accomplishing that feat without their All-Star catcher will prove to be a challenge, though.
Hunter Goodman Exits Rockies-Padres Game
Goodman, 26, is a versatile player from a defensive standpoint. He can play the catcher position, but Goodman is also capable of handling duties in the outfield or at first base. Colorado will need Goodman on the field in order to upset expectations during the 2026 season.
Goodman has continued to take steps forward in his big league career. He made his MLB debut back in 2023 but appeared in only 23 contests. Goodman then played in 70 games during the 2024 campaign. However, he hit just .190 across 224 plate appearances. Goodman displayed signs of power potential by hitting 13 home runs, though.
The 2025 season represented Goodman's breakout season. He finished the year with a .278/.323/.520 slash line in his 144 games played. The catcher added 31 home runs, 28 doubles and 91 RBIs. Goodman earned the first All-Star selection and Silver Slugger award of his career as a result of his impressive performance.
It is no secret that the Rockies have struggled since 2018. They have been one of the worst teams in all of MLB over the past few years. Goodman's emergence as a star gave fans hope for the future, however.
Heading into Thursday night's contest, Goodman had recorded a .250/.327/.409 slash line in 12 games played. He also entered the game with two home runs.
The Rockies will monitor and provide updates on Hunter Goodman's injury status. For now, the ball club will focus on trying to defeat the Padres in San Diego in the first contest of a four-game series.
