The San Francisco 49ers have won five straight games to start the season, with quarterback Brock Purdy impressing fans and experts alike with his consistent performance.
Through five games, including wins against the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams, Purdy has thrown for 1,196 yards and a league-high 13 passing touchdowns. He also leads the NFL in QB rating (85.7), which further highlights his impact on the 49ers.
Amid Purdy’s incredible run with the 49ers, former NFL star Robert Griffin III is convinced that the 26-year-old signal-caller is the best player in the league right now and is the front-runner to win MVP this season.
“Brock Purdy is the NFL MVP right now,” Griffin wrote on X after the 49ers’ Week 5 win against the Seahawks. In the game, Purdy threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns.

Griffin doubled down on his take a few days later, even calling out those criticizing Purdy. The 49ers QB has long faced criticism as a “system quarterback,” with former NFL MVP Cam Newton even calling him a “game manager” in the past.
For Griffin, however, Purdy has shown that he is the real deal and is not just a product of Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme or his surroundings in San Francisco.
“I am TIRED of people acting like we need another excuse for why the San Francisco 49ers keep winning football games,” Griffin exclaimed. “Brock Purdy is not a passenger on the 49ers anymore. He is DRIVING THE BUS for the 5-0 best team in the NFL.”
The 49ers will face the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football in Week 6. It should be a great opportunity for Purdy to show what he can do and further establish himself as the MVP favorite.
