Like man sports fans waiting for the fall, Robert Griffin III has been tuning in to Caitlin Clark and the WNBA's Indiana Fever this summer. But as the league approaches its midway point this season, he's not liking what he's seeing from how Clark is treated.
A clip has been going viral from last night's game against the Phoenix Mercury. On the play, Clark is on the ground and swarmed by several Mercury players. Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas pushes her onto the ground, and seemed to press down on Clark's neck.
Griffin was outraged and called it "targeted behavior" that all WNBA players should be protected from.
"Caitlin Clark and every WNBA player should be protected from this targeted behavior," Griffin wrote on X this morning.
The Backlash
Basketball fans were even more frustrated than Griffin was and many have suggested that Clark needs to leave the WNBA and play overseas in order to teach the league a lesson.
"CC should go play abroad for a few years and watch the WNBA tank without her. Her star power and economic impact would be welcomed anywhere else," one user remarked.
"The more I watch this The angrier I get. Not even for the actual incident Which was bad enough But this wasn't even called a foul! And we have had think pieces, hit articles and podcast segments going on about CC behavior. Its because this is allowed and its not a 1 time thing," wrote another.
"the relentless targeting she takes needs to stop," a third wrote.

Clark is the most popular player in the WNBA and one of the most popular athletes in America right now. In the same way that the NFL has instituted plenty of rules to protect its most important players - the quarterbacks - it would probably behoove the WNBA to start offering more protections to its most important players.
