There were a lot of reasons that the United States lost 4-1 to Belgium to crash out of the World Cup last night. Bad performances on our side, great performances on Belgium's side, decades of apathy, pay-to-play - and that's just the start. But Robert Griffin III believes another entity deserves the blame for the loss: The fans.
Taking to X last night following the loss, the former Heisman Trophy winner and Pro Bowl QB declared that the reason the United States lost (besides Belgium being the better team) was that "we weren't a united front as fans."
"We lost because (Belgium is a better team) we weren’t a united front as fans. We are supposed to be the United States of America not the divided states of America," Griffin declared.
United We Stand, Divided In Blame
The notion is pretty preposterous, as most people in the comments have pointed out.
"We’re still miles away. It has nothing to do with fans. Our youth system needs a rehaul," one user on X remarked.
"Incorrect. This was about play on the field Bob," wrote another.
"Nah, we lost because we sorta suck," a third wrote.

"Man stop lmao, in what world were you actually going to get close to a quality side? US is not in the same stratosphere with the rest of the world in regard to 'soccer.'"

"Ain’t nothing fans would have done bro.. relax, it was all players. No matter how united as fans you would have been, you were playing against psychopaths who had a point to prove and way more experience in football. Leave fans out of it."
A strong case can be made that nothing has united the USA better in a decade or more than the United States men's national team at the FIFA World Cup this summer. Young and old, Democrat and Republican, NFL purists and soccer Eurosnobs - just about all of them were united in support of the USMNT and tuned in in historic numbers to watch them.
