Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson raised eyebrows with his postgame comments following Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs completed a two-of-three series win at Citizens Bank Park with an 11-2 victory, handing Philadelphia its second straight defeat after a 10-4 loss Tuesday night. The Phillies, who won the series opener 13-7 on Monday, dropped to 8-10 on the season. It's a disappointing start for a club that entered 2026 with clear postseason aspirations, though the 2025 Phillies started 10-8 through their first 18 games before going on to win the NL East.
Thomson addressed the slow start in his postgame presser, speaking to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
Fans on X.com weren't buying it.
"That’s the same lack of energy and urgency we see on the field." A fan wrote.
Another wrote, "They are a bad entertainment product right now and Rob is not a great messenger. Forget about his just ridiculous decisions. Hearing him post game just makes it worse. Not saying it should be Mattingly. Frankly he's old now too etc. But somebody to change the dynamic."
"They may not be a good ball club. He is going to be on thin ice real soon." Said another.
One fan said, "LOL! Blow it UP! Fire Everyone! Trade Harper Stot Bohm and Turner! Bring up the kids!"
"Phillies were a good club these past few years.. what we’re seeing is a team starting to regress with aging players.. and a manager who provides zero energy. These veteran players are just going through the motions and not playing with fire.. sad to say." Another added.
The Phillies entered 2026 with postseason expectations, making an 8-10 start through 18 games a harder pill to swallow for a fanbase that has grown accustomed to October baseball.
