Rob Gronkowski knows a thing or two about playing with great quarterbacks, having teamed up with Tom Brady on the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On Wednesday, Gronk made an appearance on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams and explained that if given the choice of playing with New England’s quarterback Drake Maye or the Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, he would choose Maye.
“But I’m gonna go with Drake Maye. I really am. I just like the touch on his ball, you know, and I feel like in the end, Drake Maye would be for me as well as a player. Uh, he would be the ideal quarterback,” said Gronkowski.
“I feel like Drake Maye and I would be able to be on the same page with the chemistry going into games. Just the way that he can process defenses, I feel like he’s going to get better and better and better.”

Drake Maye has always utilized his tight ends in the passing game. During his three-year career, Maye has targeted his tight ends 25.7% of the time, with his favorite being 11-year veteran Hunter Henry.
In the three seasons that they have played together, Maye has connected with Henry for 111 receptions, 1,337 yards, and nine touchdowns. Henry is also a preferred target of Maye’s in the red zone, having caught 17% of Maye’s 53 career touchdowns.
If that’s the damage that Maye can do with Henry, imagine what he could do with the four-time All-Pro tight end. Between Maye’s dual-threat ability and Gronkowski’s ability to physically impose his will on defenders, the connection would be a sight to see.
Gronkowski sadly retired from the NFL after signing a one-day contract with the Patriots last January. And while we will never get to see what the quarterback and tight end can do together for New England, it’s clear that Drake Maye, in just his third season, has impressed the Hall of Fame tight end.
