The WNBA reportedly chose not to eject Las Vegas Aces star forward A’ja Wilson after she entered the stands during Game 2 in Indiana.
Wilson, the league’s best player, was not ejected despite violating the WNBA’s rulebook by entering the stands to confront an Indiana Fever fan who was “pointing” at her late in Game 2 on Tuesday night.
But, according to WNBA analyst Robin Lundberg, the league chose not to eject her because they felt she was in the “player escape lane.” However, Wilson did not enter the “player escape lane” during a natural movement in play. She walked into it and confronted the fan in his seat.
“WNBA source says A’ja Wilson was not ejected because she was in the court area “player escape lane” and not the stands,” he reported.
Wilson has made it clear that she felt she was “disrespected” by the Indiana Fever fan lat ein Game 2.
“If I see a man come at me, taking steps toward me and pointing at me, I don’t give a damn what you said. I don’t give a damn how you said it, the tone, that is unacceptable,” Wilson said after the game, according to Fever reporter Tony East.. “You don’t know me to step toward me and point at me. I’m not for that (expletive) at all … That there is unacceptable. How he gets back in the game because they said he didn’t do anything, of course he did.”
Wilson has made it clear that she won’t be changing her behavior.
“It’s just certain things that I’m not going to allow anymore, because it’s unacceptable,” she said. “You don’t know me at all to come and step toward me and point at me and say anything.”
Wilson, ultimately, was lucky to not be ejected – and lucky to not face further discipline from the WNBA.
Game 3 is set for 9 p.m. E.T. on Thursday night.
