The Patriots may have lost Super Bowl LX, but their championship window is far from closed and might be opening wider in the weeks to come.
According to NFL writer Tony Pauline, the Patriots are expected to make "a big push" for Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce. Pierce is widely viewed as the top free agent wide receiver available and is a bonafide speedster, leading the league in yards per catch over the past two seasons.
“New England Patriots are hot for Pierce and are expected to make a big push for the wideout," Pauline wrote.
This past season he had over 1,000 receiving yards on just 47 catches. Now he's in line to earn over $20 million per year - maybe even $25 million.
The Patriots Push
Not many teams are better positioned for a very long spot at the top than the Patriots right now. They have a head coach everyone respects, an ascending QB who was just a few votes shy of winning the MVP award, an elite defense and no albatross contracts.
At over $39 million in cap space right now (per OverTheCap), the Patriots rank in the top-10 for cap space in the entire league. And they haven't even made a slew of cuts that could add upwards of $20 million to their offseason warchest with the snap of their fingers.

Barring a trade, the Patriots aren't likely to be huge players in the NFL Draft next month. They have only one pick in the top 60 and three in the top 100.
It stands to reason that free agency is where we'll see the Patriots really become contenders.
Will the Patriots "win" free agency next week?
