Report Card: Which Titans Position Groups Passed vs. 49ers

The Tennessee Titans have finally wrapped up their game against the San Francisco 49ers, as they defeated the franchise 19-13 on Thursday. This was a game that showcased many starters, including quarterback Cam Ward, as well as some key rotational players like Nick Singleton.

Following the contest, I graded each position group based on their performance. Here is where I stand.

Quarterbacks - Final Grade: C

The quarterbacks are barely getting by with a passing grade, and not because of the players you would think. Hendon Hooker and Mitchell Trubisky are the only players who saved this team when it comes to a passing grade. Both finished with a 2/3 performance, while Will Levis and Cam Ward didn't have their best night.

Running Backs - Final Grade: A-

This group was awesome all night long. There were multiple players who stood out, including Tyjae Spears, Tony Pollard, and Julius Chestnut. This is going to be one of the better groups for the Titans this season, and the Titans will need them at their best.

Wide Receivers - Final Grade: D

None of the wide receivers did their job well. However, part of it is due to the quarterbacks, especially earlier in the game. When there isn't a single wide receiver who broke away from the pack, in most cases that is a bad sign, especially with how much this team invested in them.

Tight Ends - Final Grade: B-

When it comes to the tight end position, there wasn't anything spectacular. However, they did find ways to block well in the run schemes and were often helping generate holes for the players to run through. This was a massive win for the Titans' tight end group, as I was expecting less.

Offensive Line - Final Grade: D+

The offensive line didn't do badly in the rushing attack, but when it comes to the passing game, they were awful. Multiple sacks were given up, along with multiple pressures. This is a D+ performance in my opinion.

Defensive Line - Final Grade: A

I was pleased with this group. They did a great job plugging the gaps and generating pressure on the inside. The best player was absolutely Jeffery Simmons, but even away from him, this group was amazing.

EDGEs - Final Grade: B

Not a perfect night from this group, but enough big moments to give them a passing grade. The most outstanding player in this group was Oluwafemi Oladejo. Oladejo is going to be great in 2026, a potential star if he keeps this up.

Linebackers - Final Grade: C+

I had higher hopes for this group, but they still pass, as they understood the assignment but weren't game-changing. This is going to be a group that I watch even closer in the next game.

Cornerbacks - Final Grade: F

This group might as well have stayed home. They were awful in the game on Thursday, finishing with barely any stops when it comes to passes in the air. Players like Cor'Dale Flott were tortured all night, which isn't good considering the Titans reside in a division with great wide receivers.

Safeties - Final Grade: B-

Not a horrible night for the safeties in my opinion. No ball was getting past them when in zone, and they were electric when stopping the run. The main player who impressed me was Amani Hooker in his few reps. I believe a career resurgence is coming.
