Dylan Larkin remains at the center of one of the NHL’s most closely watched offseason situations, with Detroit Red Wings captain one of the best players available in the market.
On Sunday, new details emerged to keep shaping the direction of Larkin's inevitable departure from Detroit at some point during the next few weeks or months.
The Red Wings forward requested a trade at the start of June, setting off a series of developments that have developed into an expanded list of potential destinations, the number of interested teams, and Larkin's own preferences on where to play next.
More detailed information about Larkin’s true preferences emerged over the weekend, with the latest nuggets pointing toward whether he'd prefer to land in a franchise based in the United States or Canada.

According to TNS's Darren Dreger, who appeared on "The Morning Show" on Friday, Larkin would prefer to remain in the United States if a deal is completed.
“It sure sounds like Dylan Larkin would prefer another U.S.-based team,” Dreger said.
That preference adds another layer to an already complex negotiation between franchises discussing the trade with the Red Wings, as Larkin’s full no-trade clause gives him control over where he ultimately lands.
Earlier reports identified the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Florida Panthers as teams on his initial list of acceptable destinations. However, the situation has continued to evolve, with the Panthers likely out of the race following their trade for former Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported that additional teams, including the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Utah Mammoth and Philadelphia Flyers, have shown interest.
“I’ve heard San Jose. I’ve heard Dallas. I’ve heard Utah, Philadelphia to a degree …,” Pagnotta said on June 14. “At least they have interest. I don’t know if they’re one of the teams, but it sounds like the other three are, and I think he’d be open if another opportunity presented itself to consider it.”
At the same time, Detroit has been working to expand its options, with The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reporting that general manager Steve Yzerman has asked Larkin’s camp to consider additional teams and expanding his original shortlist.
With Larkin under contract through 2030-31 and approaching his 30th birthday. He's coming off scoring 34 goals and 67 points in 74 regular-season games last season.
