The Boston Red Sox have had a true roller coaster 2026 season following an early Wild Card exit in 2025.
Following a 15-game and a 9-game winning streak, the Red Sox are currently facing a five-game skid which has pushed them firmly to third place in the American League East division.
While they still hold the second Wild Card spot, the road from here may become more difficult following another injury update on Thursday morning.
It was revealed that the Red Sox reliever and set-up man Garrett Whitlock will be placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
The 30-year-old has once again been a perfect bridge to closer Aroldis Chapman this season.
He is posting a 2.05 ERA with 49 strikeouts, seven walks and a 0.89 WHIP in 44 innings.
It is another loss in a long line of injuries for the Red Sox this season.
The team has recalled right-handed pitcher Greg Weissert from Triple-A as the corresponding move.
Weissert pitched well with the Red Sox in 48 games this season, posting a 3.97 ERA with 44 strikeouts and 14 walks in 45 1/3 innings.
There will be more updates on when Whitlock may return as he progresses through his injury,
