The Tampa Bay Rays have been rolling in their last 10 games to a 8-2 record despite some recent injuries. The team still holds a comfortable five-game lead for first place in the American League East division.
In the past two weeks, the Rays have lost two of their best pitchers in left-hander Shane McClanahan and right-hander Griffin Jax to the 15-day injured list.
Jax was placed on the injured list on August 9 (retroactive to August 6) with right elbow discomfort.
The 31-year-old was scratched from his start on Saturday and is expected to receive more testing on Monday.
Rays' manager Kevin Cash told the media on Sunday that Jax said that he felt better today, a great sign going into his testing Monday.
The Rays' starter/bulk reliever has been excellent this season in 29 games.
Across 91 2/3 innings, Jax posts a 3.63 ERA with 100 strikeouts, 30 walks and a 1.21 WHIP.
The Rays acquired Freddy Peralta at the Trade Deadline to help their injured staff, but his seven earned runs allowed in his first start for Tampa Bay was not encouraging.
The results of Jax's tests are expected by August 12th.
