Heisman Trophy runner-up Diego Pavia was lucky enough to get taken on by the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent after going undrafted in April. Unfortunately, his luck hasn't carried into training camp.
With just six days before the Ravens open training camp, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported today that Pavia has been waived. The former Vanderbilt QB and reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year is now without a team as training camps begin to open.
"The #Ravens have waived former #Vanderbilt star QB Diego Pavia prior to training camp," Rapoport reported.
The Mockery Ensues
NFL and college football fans have been pretty unified in their distaste for Pavia, mostly due to some of his gloating and antics in the latter half of the 2025 college season. So when news of Pavia's release crossed the wire, the mockery swiftly started:
"They must have thought the box he needed on every play was more of a tripping hazard than it was worth," one user on X joked.
"Time to practice saying 'Can I take your order?'" wrote another.
"Heisman runner up to waived in less than a year has got to be a humbling experience," a third remarked.
"Damn bro didn’t even make it to training camp."
"Doordash is getting a new starter."

Pavia reached national prominence in 2024 when he led the Commodores on an historic upset over the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The team went on to finish 6-6 in the regular season before beating Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl to finish 7-6, their first winning season in a decade.
2025 was his masterpiece year though. Pavia went 10-3 as a starter, leading Vanderbilt to their first-ever 10-win season and first top-15 ranking since 1948. He had 3,539 passing yards, an SEC-leading 29 touchdown passes and another 10 rushing touchdowns.
Pavia went on to finish second in the Heisman Trophy voting, losing out to Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza.
