The Texas Rangers got a positive update on Josh Jung after the third baseman left Sunday’s 7-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Jung was removed from the game late after dealing with calf stiffness, but the Rangers treated the move as a precaution after he had only recently returned from the injured list.
Kennedi Landry reported on X that Jung was fine following the exit.
Jung had a productive afternoon before leaving the game. He went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI as Texas completed the series win in Phoenix.
The Rangers were particularly careful with Jung because of what he has already gone through this season. The 28-year-old spent nearly two months sidelined with a left calf strain after being placed on the 10-day injured list July 25.
Jung returned to the Rangers on Saturday, Sept. 12, after a brief rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock. He homered during that assignment before rejoining Texas for the final stretch of the season.
That made Sunday’s decision an easy one for the Rangers once they noticed Jung was dealing with some stiffness. With the team holding a lead, there was little reason to push him through the rest of the game.
Jung has hit .298 with a .363 on-base percentage, .441 slugging percentage, nine home runs and 37 RBI in 94 games this season. He now has 108 hits despite missing a significant portion of the second half.

The Rangers improved to 74-76 with Sunday’s victory and remain in the American League Wild Card race. They will have an off-day Monday before beginning a nine-game homestand against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
Getting Jung through the final weeks of the season will be important for Texas. The Rangers cannot afford another extended absence from one of their key infielders.
For now, Sunday’s early exit appears to have been about managing Jung’s workload rather than another significant injury concern.
