The Los Angeles Rams made one of the biggest surprises in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson. He joins Los Angeles with expectations of sitting behind reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, who will be entering his 18th season in the NFL at 38 years old.
It remains to be seen when Simpson gets the opportunity to take over as the starter, but the 23-year-old did show off solid production last season. In 15 games for the Crimson Tide, he completed 305-of-473 passes for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 145.2 passer rating.

With his new team now in focus, it hasn't taken long for the quarterback to capitalize on the spotlight he's been put into. On Friday, one day after being selected by the Rams, Simpson announced a new partnership with Gillette.
This moment is bigger than me. #Ad My mom helped me make sure I’m ready for it," he wrote via an Instagram post. "And @Gillette keeps me sharp for everything ahead. #GillettePartner."
Simpson is no stranger to taking advantage of these types of off-field opportunities. Along with Gillette, the quarterback has revealed partnerships with brands such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Meta, NIVEA, Oliver Cabell and Gatorade.
With his latest deal announced, he is focused on making a strong impression with Los Angeles. One of his first tests will be the rookie minicamp. All teams may conduct this three-day minicamp one of the two weekends after the draft. That means the Rams may choose between May 1-4 or May 8-11.
With the possibility of serving as Stafford's successor, Simpson faces high expectations even if he does not see immediate playing time.
