WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita is “speechless” after watching the Indiana Fever’s postgame press conference on Sunday evening.
The Fever fell to the Aces, 102-85, in Game 1 of their first round WNBA Playoffs series. Indiana is now facing elimination heading into Game 2. Fever head coach Stephanie White says that sometimes you need to be “humbled” to move forward.
Ultimately, though, you don’t want to be “humbled” in a three-game playoff series. The Fever now have to win back-to-back games to move on.
DeMita is “speechless” after hearing what Fever head coach Stephanie White had to say on Sunday evening.
“Have to be humbled???? in a 3 game series where your best chance of winning was to steal game 1????? I’m speechless,” she remarked on X, formerly known as Twitter.
It’s a questionable comment, to be sure.
The Aces, meanwhile, got everything they needed and more from star forward A’ja Wilson in Game 1. She could not be stopped, scoring 38 points.
“I don’t think I necessarily felt any flow state this game,” Wilson said. “Honestly, we were just performing well because we handled what we needed to do on the defensive end. I don’t think I had an out-of-body experience.
“I think I just did my job. I did what my teammates are expecting me to do. So, if I’m able to show up consistently for them in whatever way it may look like, then I feel like I did all right.”
The Fever will have to figure things out in a hurry heading into Game 2 or they’ll be going home early.
Game 2 of the first round series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. E.T. The game will air live on Amazon Prime Video. Indianapolis needs to win to force a do-it-all Game 3 later this week.
