Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an injury in their preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Friday.
The Dolphins began their preseason with an away game against Washington at the Northwest Stadium, losing 20-7.
Miami scored only in the first quarter and was held scoreless in the next three. De’Von Achane’s lone touchdown turned out to be their only tally in the game.
But one of the biggest stories of the game was Ewers suffering a groin injury. Though he finished the game, Ewers will now miss at least a week to recover and is now placed on a week-to-week status.
This prompted the team to re-sign quarterback Mark Gronowski to add depth at the quarterback position. Dolphins beat reporter David Furones reported the development.
“Miami Dolphins QB Quinn Ewers suffered a groin injury early in his action in Friday’s preseason opener against the Commanders, according to a league source,” Furones wrote. “The Dolphins now bring back QB Mark Gronowski. Plus, OL Jamaree Salyer’s season is done and more.”
Gronowski went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft but was signed by the Dolphins as a free agent. He was waived by Miami earlier this month before the team decided to re-sign him.
Meanwhile, Ewers completed 1-of-8 passes for 27 yards and threw one interception during their game against Washington.
The seventh-round QB from the 2025 NFL Draft put up decent numbers in his rookie season with Miami. He logged 622 passing yards for three touchdowns against three interceptions in four games.
He was a solid backup for Malik Willis last season, as he and veteran Zach Wilson split the QB2 role mid-season.
