The beauty of sports is that although there are statistics and awards to give everyone tangible value, people still formulate their own opinions and beliefs based on context and their own perception.
The NBA debate about its greatest player of all time is an argument as old as the league itself, and it isn’t one that will end any time soon.
Hall of Fame shooting guard Michael Jordan and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James are widely considered to be the two greatest, but the discussion about who takes the cake is one of the most divisive in sports history.

NFL star Puka Nacua is a huge basketball fan, and he recently gave his opinion on the debate, saying, “You could walk out on the basketball court with no knees, and only your left hand and give the NBA 25, five and five… LeGoat.”
The play on James’ name at the end of the Los Angeles Rams star’s statement refers to the acronym G.O.A.T., which means greatest of all time.
While Nacua used a bit of hyperbole, also saying, “I never want you to leave. Never retire… You’re the best, I love you so much,” it shows just how passionate and confident he is that James has the edge over Jordan.
It would be hard to argue against him, but fans of the Chicago Bulls legend would probably feel the exact opposite.
This is where context and personal perception comes into play, because both men have a strong case for being the greatest player in league history.
Jordan trumps James when it comes to accolades, owning more MVP trophies and championships.
However, many people think the latter is a better player, and he has the edge in a statistical sense, with many longevity stats like most all-time points belonging to him.
You truly could make a solid argument for either player, but Nacua was not shy about letting the world know his choice.
