Prime Video Facing Scrutiny For Coverage Of A'ja Wilson Fan Incident

A'ja Wilson of the Aces argues with fan.

WNBA fans weren’t thrilled with Prime Video’s coverage of Game 2 between the Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever.

With 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 2, Aces star A’ja Wilson confronted a Fever fan at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. She was assessed a technical foul for her behavior, while the fan was temporarily asked to leave his seat.

During Prime Video’s broadcast Tuesday night, WNBA legend Candace Parker offered her thoughts on this heated incident.

“To be honest with you, if you’re a player, you can’t say anything. We’re human beings as well and I think sometimes fans get into the game and think they can say whatever they want” Parker said, via Awful Announcing. “We don’t know what was said, but A’ja took exception to it.”

LaChina Robinson, meanwhile, said Wilson’s behavior on the court was not in line with what we’re accustomed to seeing. However, she believes the four-time MVP’s confrontation with the Fever fan must have been “absolutely necessary.”

During Prime Video’s postgame coverage, Lindsey Harding doubled down on the idea that Wilson was disrespected by this fan.

“I know something was said. Something was said, disrespectful, to a point for her to do that, and it’s not okay,” Harding said.

These comments from Prime Video’s WNBA crew received plenty of criticism.

“Of the seven Prime broadcasters, not one raised the most likely explanation: Wilson was frustrated with the way the game was going and took it out on a fan. She had dominated Game 1 with 38 points and 16 rebounds. At the time of the confrontation in Game 2, she had 14 points and the Aces trailed by 11 with 4:10 remaining,” Dan Zaksheske of OutKick wrote. “Indiana fans have become an easy scapegoat, and the reaction on Bluesky showed how little information some people needed to blame them.”

What truly happened in Game 2?

The Fever said the fan who argued with Wilson didn’t violate their code of conduct, so there was no ejection on Tuesday night.

“Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses,” the team said. “Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, the fan was not removed from the arena. We consider the matter closed.”

Wilson, on the other hand, had this to say: “If I see a man come at me, taking steps towards me and pointing at me… I don’t give a [expletive] what you said. It’s unacceptable.”

Since Game 3 will be played at home, Wilson and the Aces shouldn’t have to worry about another courtside altercation.
