"Prime Minister Mark Carney has officially scheduled time to watch the Canada vs. USA gold medal game in Burnaby today. Ontario Premier Doug Ford has pushed teachers to show the game and Friday's men's semifinal in class. So, wonderfully Canadian," Steiner tweeted.
The game continues a long rivalry between the two nations, which have met in most Olympic finals since 1998.
Canada holds a 4-2 record in gold medal games against the United States, but the Americans enter this matchup on a six-game winning streak.
The United States won 5-0 in group play earlier in the tournament. They have had six shutouts in total, including two shutout wins in the elimination stage.
Support for the team has also come from Ontario, where Ontario Premier Doug Ford said schools should allow students to watch the remaining Olympic hockey games during class hours. He directed the education minister to make sure students can follow the games, starting with the gold medal final.
