Old comments that President Donald Trump made have been discovered by WNBA fans this week.
In July 2022, Trump joked about building the "greatest" team in WNBA history while at the America First Policy Institute. He said he'd ask LeBron James if he'd have "any desire" to be a woman.
"I’ll tell you what – I’d be the greatest women’s basketball coach in history. Because, I don’t like LeBron James. I like Michael Jordan much better," Trump said. "But I’d go up to LeBron James, it doesn’t matter, I’d say, ‘LeBron, did you ever have any desire to be a woman? Because what I’d love you to do is star on my team that I’m building up. I’ll have the greatest team in history. They’ll never lose. Nobody will come within 70 points of this team.' No, we have to change that. We have to make it OK to talk about it."
These comments from Trump have resurfaced online due to the recent debate involving transgender participation in women's sports.

What's going on in the WNBA?
A few days ago, Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve went viral for wearing a shirt that said, “Trans kids belong.” This was most likely a response to Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham saying she wants to "protect young girls" from competing against biological men.
"We have some issues. Number one, we need to protect trans kids. Every kid — to me, it’s a human rights issue. Every kid has a right to sports regardless of (being) gender diverse, transgender," Reeve said. "Now, what gets nuanced is when you’re beyond puberty, when you’re in Olympic sport, when … we have scholarships at stake and that sort of thing. That’s where I say that common-sense people get together, and you find common ground to find a way to be inclusive. The answer isn’t no. It is not the case that we have ‘biological men in girls’ locker rooms,’ the way it’s being phrased, the innuendo there that somehow transgender women are predators. … There’s a lot of narrative that is problematic that we need to address. That is simply not what’s happening."
Some people, such as Fox News host Jesse Watters, were outraged over this situation and the attention it's getting.
“This is week three of covering the WNBA, and I have to say, I’m done. I hate the WNBA. I don’t mind women’s basketball. My girls play basketball, but I don’t want to cover women’s basketball. I don’t want to be a WNBA analyst. We get paid to have an opinion about everything. And this is something I don’t care about,” Watters said, via Awful Announcing.
