President Trump continues to bash his least-favorite NFL rule.
The President of the United States appeared on a popular college football podcast this week. President Trump joined Josh Pate of On3 and ESPN. The President of the United States was supposed to be talking about college football, but instead, he decided to trash his least-favorite NFL rule.
President Trump roasted the NFL's modified kickoff rule, which he says is terrible and is ruining the game.
The President of the United States was asked how he feels about the state of college football. He replied: “It’s too bad. I hate to see it." Then, though, President Trump went on a tangent about the NFL kickoff rule and how much he hates it.
President Trump was asked for his further thoughts on college football and how he decides which games to attend. He gave a bit of a rambling answer.
“I’ll look around and say, well, South Carolina is good,” said Trump, as the Gamecocks went 4-8 last year. “And Georgia’s good. I like Georgia. I like this Georgia team. I like your quarterback, by the way. I like Gunner [Stockton]. He’s going to be a great quarterback. I’m telling you, he’s already a great quarterback, but he’s only going to get better.”
President Trump hates that rule, though
One thing is clear about President Trump's football knowledge: he hates the NFL kickoff rule.
“I hated seeing what the NFL did with the kickoff return,” he wrote in an October 2024 post. “Saw it tonight at the Steelers/Jets game. When you have something that works, don’t ‘tinker’ with it, you may end up with nothing!”
He calls it "sissy" football.
“The ball is moving, and the players are not, the exact opposite of what football is all about,” he added. “‘Sissy’ football is bad for America, and bad for the NFL!”
The NFL, though, is standing by its rule for 2026.
