As difficult as it is to actually take prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi seriously as real "predictors" of how things will go, a recent change in odds could change the perception of Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel's future.
As of Friday, both Kalshi and Polymarket have active questions on whether Vrabel will finish or even start the 2026 NFL season as the Patriots' head coach. On Polymarket, the question of whether Vrabel will be fired by December 31, 2026 has 23-percent of money on "Yes." On Kalshi, there is just a 77-percent rating on whether Vrabel will even make it to Week 1 as the team's head coach.
Despite being just three months removed from leading the Patriots to their first Super Bowl in the post-Brady & Belichick era, Vrabel's future with the team has suddenly been called into question amid the controversy involving his alleged relationship with now-former NFL insider Dianna Russini.
Recapping the Scandal
The controversy surrounding Vrabel and Russini began a few weeks ago after photos published by Page Six showed the two together at a resort in Arizona during league meetings. Because Vrabel was the head coach of the Patriots and Russini covered the NFL for The Athletic, the images sparked widespread speculation about a possible inappropriate relationship and raised questions about professional boundaries between reporters and league sources. Both denied wrongdoing and said the photos lacked context.

The story grew larger because it touched on media ethics, conflicts of interest, and how personal relationships can affect public trust in sports reporting. The Athletic reportedly reviewed the matter internally, and Russini later resigned from the outlet amid intense public attention. The NFL said it was not investigating Vrabel under league policy, while Vrabel later acknowledged having difficult conversations with family and team members. The controversy became less about confirmed misconduct and more about perception, accountability, and standards for journalists and high-profile sports figures.
As far as predicting Mike Vrabel's future in New England goes though, his recent success has bought him a large amount of support from fans who are delighted to see the team dominating again. Chances are, he'll retain the good graces of the fans - and the ownership - for as long as he keeps winning.
