So much for a classic baseball rivalry. The New York Yankees disposed of the Boston Red Sox with ease in the Americal League wild-card round, outscoring the Sox 18-2 in the two-game sweep. The Yanks will now face the AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS. Game 1 is Saturday at Tropicana Field (6:30 p.m. ET, TBS).
“I think if we keep pitching the way we’re pitching, we can be able to dominate the World Series,” said AL Cy Young favorite Cam Schlittler, the winning pitcher in Game 1.
New York has been hitting pretty good, too — and that was without slugger Aaron Judge, who was not healthy enough to be on the roster against the Red Sox. We still don‘’’t know if he’ll be active for the ALDS. The Rays won the season series against New York, 7-6.
