Kawhi Leonard’s trade from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Toronto Raptors last week was big news. But as Lee Corso would say: Not so fast, my friends.
Leonard’s return to the Raptors, the team he helped win an NBA title in 2019, is on hold pending the NBA’s investigation into accusations that the Clippers improperly circumvented salary cap rules with Leonard.
“The NBA league office informed us that as a result of the ongoing investigation involving the Clippers, we would assume the risk of any potential outcome of the investigation impacting Kawhi,” the Raptors said Thursday. “In light of this, we will wait until the league’s investigation is complete.”
Outside counsel is conducting the investigation into reports that a $28 million endorsement deal Leonard had with a company that filed for bankruptcy in 2025 was a ruse to circumvent the cap. There is no timetable for the conclusion of the investigation. So…
