We won’t see the complete 2026 NFL schedule until May, but we will get a few sneak peeks between now and then. One fascinating nugget that was reported last week is that the NFL is considering the addition of a national game to be played on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving — and that could happen as soon as this season.
The NFL, of course, owns Thanksgiving. The Detroit Lions have hosted Thanksgiving Day games annually since the 1930s; the Dallas Cowboys began their tradition in the 1960s. A third Thanksgiving game, in prime time, was added in 2006. Two years ago, with Amazon Prime Vifeo as the media partner, the NFL launched its Black Friday game, airing on the afternoon after Turkey Day.
Now, it seems, we’ll have a Thanksgiving Eve game. If that happens this year, we’ll have this unreal stretch: From Sunday, November 22 through Monday, November 29. we’ll have six days of NFL football in an eight-day span.
Is that too much? Most NFL fans would say no. But here’s a worthy question:
