Caitlin Clark returned to the court Wednesday night for the Indiana Fever after missing two games with a back injury, and she scored a modest nine points in a 106-92 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. The Fever are bringing Clark back slowly, which unfortunately means she’ll be resting Thursday night — when the Fever face a potentially tense matchup at the Phoenix Mercury.
You’ll recall, these teams met two weeks ago, and Clark appeared to be punched in the throat by Mercury star Alyssa Thomas.
In a new twist, Republican lawmakers have joined the cause, reportedly sending a letter to the WNBA asking what the league plans to do to curtail "unnecessary physical hostility and violence" toward Clark. The letter intimated this treatment of Clark might be racially motivated.
While tonight’s game will be slightly less dramatic with Clark on the bench, it could still get very chippy. More importantly, how will the league address the letter they received?
