The Detroit Pistons are coming off an impressive season as they finished with a 60-22 record, which was the best in the Eastern Conference.
Unfortunately, the Pistons were unable to advance past the second round of the playoffs as they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games.

Because of this, the Pistons enter the offseason looking to upgrade their roster around Cade Cunningham and they also have some key decisions to make on free agents Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris.
Detroit has already made one move to begin the offseason as the team traded Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies for three second-round picks during the second round of the NBA draft.
With this move, the Pistons were able to free up cap space and a report by an NBA insider revealed that they may target a star player to pair alongside Cunningham next season.

After trading Stewart, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the Pistons are looking to add a star player to their roster with LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard being two potential targets for them.
This is a major report by Windhorst and one that does make sense for the Pistons after it was made clear at times last season, especially during the playoffs, that they need another go-to scoring option next to Cunningham.
Of course, James would be the easier of the two for the Pistons to add as they could sign him in free agency this summer, though the future Hall of Famer is expected to draw interest from multiple teams around the NBA.

James would provide the Pistons with an elite scorer and playmaker alongside Cunningham who could help them compete for a championship next season, though he is entering the final years of his career.
If the Pistons are unable to land James in free agency, they could target Leonard as a backup plan, though the Clippers may want a large trade package in return for their superstar forward if they do decide to trade him this offseason.

Leonard would give the Pistons a great scorer and defender at the forward position who also has championship experience, though his injury history could be a concern for Detroit.
Either way, it appears that the Pistons are preparing to make a major move to add another star to their roster alongside Cunningham this offseason and while they could target both James and Leonard, they may look at other options as well.
