Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto has not had the season he was hoping for, now in his eighth year with the organization. The 35-year-old veteran signed a three-year, $45 million contract to extend his stay in Philadelphia this past offseason.
It is safe to say the Phillies have not gotten what they expected. Not only has Realmuto struggled to stay healthy, spending time on the 10-day injured list with a lower back injury, but even when on the field he has not produced.
Through 31 games, Realmuto has posted a .212 batting average, .284 on-base percentage, .563 OPS, one home run and eight RBIs. He has the track record to bounce back as a three-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove winner and three-time Silver Slugger, but he may be past the point of consistently performing at that level.

Realmuto’s disappointing season took another hit on a personal level this week. He has always been vocal about how much his faith means to him, both on and off the field. Earlier this year, he announced an event that would connect the two, known as Faith and Baseball Night.
The plan was for Realmuto to host the event after a game this upcoming Saturday, speaking about his faith before a live concert for fans featuring NEEDTOBREATHE.
Realmuto announced on his Instagram story that the event was postponed. “Unfortunately, Faith and Baseball Night this Saturday, May 23, has been postponed due to the uncertain logistics of staging an on field concert. We will look to reschedule the event during the 2027 season.”
Realmuto added that fans who purchased concert field passes would be automatically refunded. It is another frustrating moment in what has already been a difficult year for him.
This would have marked Realmuto's third time hosting the event, as he had hoped to make it an annual tradition.
