The Philadelphia Phillies received disappointing news during the All-Star break after Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton shut down any speculation about a potential blockbuster trade.
Asked by Phillies reporter Tim Kelly whether he would waive his full no-trade clause if Philadelphia pursued him, the three-time All-Star gave a direct response: "I ain't going nowhere." The answer effectively ends what would have been one of the Phillies' most exciting trade possibilities before the July deadline.
Buxton's response is especially disappointing because he has been one of baseball's best all-around players this season. His combination of elite defense in center field and impact power made him an ideal fit for a Phillies club expected to be aggressive at the trade deadline.
Despite currently being on the injured list with a right hip strain, Buxton has produced at an All-Star level in 2026. He is batting .271 with 25 home runs, 45 RBIs, a .904 OPS and seven stolen bases in 75 games.
Philadelphia has been linked to center field upgrades as it looks to strengthen its roster for another postseason run. Adding a player of Buxton's caliber would have significantly boosted both the lineup and the defense.

Instead, the Phillies will likely have to shift their attention to other outfield options before the trade deadline. Buxton's full no-trade clause gives him complete control over his future, and his comments made it clear he wants to remain with the Twins.
Minnesota entered the All-Star break still within striking distance of an American League wild card spot, giving the organization even more reason to keep one of its franchise cornerstones despite outside interest.
