Alec Bohm slashed .249/.315/.383 with 15 home runs and 88 RBIs in 155 games for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2026. The 30-year-old infielder is now headed for free agency, and a rival team could be in the market for him, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Bohm, the Phillies’ first-round pick in 2018, has been a lineup staple since debuting in 2020. He had a slow start to the season, batting .151 with 20 strikeouts through March and April before working his way back to solid numbers in the second half of the season.
From May 9 through the end of the season, Bohm hit .274 with 14 home runs and 73 RBIs. In the postseason, he hit a go-ahead home run in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series, but the Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves in Game 3. Bohm’s teammate, Bryce Harper, said afterward that the team will look “a lot different” in 2027, with more than half a dozen Phillies headed for free agency.
Feinsand noted that the Mets’ production at first base ranked third-worst in the majors with a .667 OPS, but Jorge Polanco is signed for $20 million next season. Third base also is tied down with Bo Bichette, who signed for $42 million in 2027.
“Owner Steve Cohen could look past the money owed to Polanco if he believes Bohm is a good fit for the Mets, who are coming off of two-straight seasons without reaching the postseason,” Feinsand wrote.
When looking at who’s left in the 2026 postseason, the Cleveland Guardians, Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers are all teams that have spent a lot less on payroll and have gone a lot further than the Mets. Look at the Dodgers, who have spent $300 million plus on payroll and are back-to-back World Series champions.

It’s up to Cohen to decide which direction he wants to go into, but in a market where one of the highest payrolls in the league has had recent success, it’s hard to imagine that Cohen would not be willing to spend even more to get a better chance of making the postseason, let alone winning the World Series.
