The criticism of U.S. men's soccer star Christian Pulisic is going from bad to ugly.
Pulisic struggled in the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, as the Americans were thumped by Belgium, 4-1, in the knockout round. Pulisic left in the second half, struggling with a leg injury. Following the game, he admitted that he'll at least now get to "rest."
“You wanted some of those big-time players to step up in big moments,” U.S. women's soccer legend Carli Lloyd said. “I gotta be honest, I was a bit disappointed with Christian Pulisic. Whether he wants to be the star of this team or not, we didn’t see enough from him in this particular game and, really, the whole World Cup. Little glimpses here or there.”

As the criticism around Pulisic grows, U.S. men's soccer legend Landon Donovan sounded off on Wednesday afternoon.
Donovan is urging Pulisic to change the way he's being handled.
U.S. soccer figures 'fed up' with Pulisic
Donovan didn't hold back.
"This is an opportunity to help and to change your life forever. One of the biggest problems - I speak to people who are at U.S. Soccer. I speak to his sponsors. I speak to his teammates. I speak to the staff and the coaches. People are fed up with the way things are handled around him. And it's not necessarily him, but it's his agents, his family, his hangers-on, the people who are influencing. People are fed up with it. They treat people poorly. They do things poorly," Donovan said.
"It's always a 'no' whenever you wanna ask, 'Can we do an interview?' It's always a, 'No, you can't get near him.' He doesn't say 'hi' to the commentators who do all the games all the time when they walk by. All the other guys come over and shake hands and say, 'Hello.' There's just this sense about him that you can't get near him. And I actually don't think it's from him. I think it's from I think it's from the people around him."
Pulisic has been one of the faces of U.S. soccer for nearly a decade. But, it's clear that people are getting fed up, apparently with both his performance and his behavior.
