Paul Finebaum has seen a lot in college football over the last 40 years or so.

The longtime college football expert, known to many as the Voice of the SEC, has been covering the sport for several decades. However, on Monday, the SEC Network star believes that college football has reached a new low.

NFL tight end Dae’Quan Wright is leaving professional football for college football. The Browns tight end is being waived and he is expected to sign with Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers. Wright went undrafted coming out of Ole Miss in 2026.

Wright is the first, but he likely won’t be the last player to pursue this. Several other NFL players who don’t make Week 1 rosters are expected to pursue college football team deals for the 2026 season.

Finebaum is not happy.

The ESPN college football expert sounded off on the state of college football in a new rant on Monday morning.

Finebaum: College football has ‘plunged’ to new low

Finebaum said on ESPN’s “Get Up!” this morning that college football has plunged into the abyss.

“College football has officially plunged into the abyss,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “We have never been at a place like this before. There have been scandals far more serious, but this is a new low in terms of the machinations of the legal system, the NCAA, and all these things.

“It’s just incomprehensible to think that someone was on an NFL roster the other day and he very well could be playing for LSU a week from this Saturday, but it’s the way things are right now.”

Finebaum admits that it’s all “chaos.”

“And the one thing that I think everybody is waiting for, callers are outraged, fans are outraged across the board, what can, if anything, the Southeastern Conference do about it,” Finebaum said. “There has not been a puff of smoke from the headquarters building in downtown Birmingham. Something will be said at some point. There is a president’s meeting at some point today or tomorrow, and I think that the league would like to speak as a group, with the exception of LSU, which has always been a bit of a renegade, and that will be equally anticipated. But until then, Greeny, it’s just chaos.”
