There seems to be some controversy brewing over whether embattled New England Patriots QB Drake Maye is dealing with a shoulder injury. One Patriots insider says the organization is currently “befuddled” by the situation.
Per Patriots on CLNS, longtime Patriots insider Greg Bedard said yesterday that the organization is perplexed by comments Drake Maye about his shoulder. Bedard said that the organization has found nothing wrong with his shoulder and wonder if either his agent or his family is trying to make excuses for his poor play in September.
“There is nothing wrong with his shoulder… Some people in the building think that this might be coming from… his family or his agent trying to bake in an excuse for his throwing,” Bedard said.
A non-issue?
Fans immediately pointed out that Maye has not been complaining about his shoulder. Following Sunday’s loss he expressly said that there was not an issue there and he’s felt good since training camp.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t say there’s a problem with my shoulder,” Maye said. “I think there’s times where I think you look back and you look back on the playoff run in that Denver game and when I took the hit and to now. I felt good during training camp and continue to let it loose.”
Fans believe Bedard is just listening to his sources too hard or even making things up:
“This organization is a joke he never said anything about his shoulder lol. You people fall for the clicks and $$$ these ppl make off of you so easily,” one user said dismissively on X.
“He’s not talking about it, the media is. Non issue except media spin,” wrote another.
“Drake Maye has been asked a million times about his shoulder and his answer is always been the same there is nothing wrong with my shoulder! How about maybe he’s just not as good a quarterback as people think he is or want him to be?” a third wrote.

Whether there’s a shoulder injury or not, Maye has to make some corrections soon. The Patriots are 1-2 and already two games behind the Buffalo Bills, who they play this weekend.
A loss to Buffalo will put them three games behind within the first quarter of the season with plenty of challenging games left to play – particularly in the second half of the year.
