Patrick Mahomes has already cleared one of the biggest hurdles in his return from last December’s devastating knee injury. After suffering torn ACL and LCL ligaments against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 of the 2025 season, the Chiefs quarterback was cleared for full participation ahead of training camp.

Head coach Andy Reid told reporters that the team will continue to monitor him closely. He has repeatedly stressed that the Chiefs will take Mahomes’ recovery day by day, but everything remains on track for the three-time Super Bowl MVP to be ready for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.

There was another encouraging development on Day 2 of full-team practice. According to ESPN’s Nate Taylor, Mahomes scrambled and showed no issues rolling to his right, an important sign of progress considering the injury to his left knee.

His mobility was one of the biggest questions entering camp, and Thursday’s practice suggested the quarterback is growing increasingly comfortable moving outside the pocket as he continues his recovery.

While Mahomes continues to wear a knee brace during practice, the expectation is that his confidence and workload will continue to increase over the coming weeks.

Mahomes is coming off the toughest statistical season of his career since becoming a starter. He completed 62.7% of his passes in 2025, throwing for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 14 games.

The Chiefs stumbled to a 6-11 finish and missed the playoffs last season. However, the front office has responded during the offseason by rebuilding the supporting cast around their franchise quarterback.
