Patrick Mahomes has never been shy about his connection to Texas Tech, and the Kansas City Chiefs superstar is once again putting his fingerprints on his alma mater.
Texas Tech will debut its new “Let’s Ride” uniforms on Sept. 18 against Houston, giving the Red Raiders another Mahomes-inspired look for one of their biggest early-season games. The uniforms were created in collaboration with Adidas and Mahomes, who starred in Lubbock before becoming one of the NFL’s biggest names.
Yahoo Sports revealed the uniforms Wednesday, offering fans their first look at what Texas Tech will wear against the Cougars.
The collaboration represents another step in the increasingly close relationship between Mahomes and the Red Raiders football program.
Patrick Mahomes Helps Texas Tech Create “Let’s Ride” Uniforms
“Texas Tech’s ‘Let’s Ride’ uniforms, created in collaboration with Adidas and Red Raiders alum Patrick Mahomes, will debut Sept. 18 against Houston,” Yahoo Sports reported on X.
The “Let’s Ride” theme is an unmistakable nod to Texas Tech’s Red Raider identity, while Mahomes’ involvement gives the alternate uniform another layer of significance.
Mahomes played at Texas Tech from 2014 through 2016, developing into one of college football’s most prolific quarterbacks. His final season was particularly memorable, as he threw for 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns before declaring for the NFL draft.
The Chiefs eventually selected Mahomes with the No. 10 overall pick in 2017.
His NFL success has only strengthened his connection to Texas Tech rather than pulling him away from the school.
Texas Tech’s Partnership With Mahomes Continues To Grow
The latest uniform reveal comes after Texas Tech and Adidas launched the “Mahomes Strategy” in 2024, making the Red Raiders the first collegiate program to wear Mahomes’ signature Gladiator logo on official uniforms.
That relationship has expanded well beyond football.
Mahomes has remained one of Texas Tech’s most visible supporters, frequently promoting the university and its athletic programs. His presence gives the Red Raiders something few college programs can match: a direct connection to one of the most recognizable active athletes in American sports.
Now that connection will be showcased again under the lights.
The Sept. 18 matchup against Houston gives Texas Tech a natural stage for the uniforms. The two programs are Big 12 opponents, adding more significance to the decision to debut the special look that night.
For Mahomes, the collaboration is another opportunity to stay connected to the program that helped launch his career. For Texas Tech, it is another chance to capitalize on a relationship that has become a major part of the school’s national brand.
And when the Red Raiders take the field against Houston, Mahomes’ influence will be impossible to miss.
