We already knew Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was an exceptional competitor, but he may actually be a superhuman as well.
As if missing the playoffs wasn't bad enough for the Chiefs last season, Mahomes suffered a torn ACL on Dec. 14 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Although he suffered this serious injury towards the end of the 2025 season, Kansas City's medical staff kept saying he was ahead of schedule. Well, the Chiefs weren't kidding.
During this Friday's press conference, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that Mahomes has been fully cleared to practice at training camp.
"Pat’s doing great with his [rehab]. Right now he’s got clearance to practice and do all the different periods that we have in this camp," Reid said, via Pro Football Talk. "We’ll just take it day by day and see how he does. He’ll have plenty of eyes on him from coaches to trainers to doctors. But right now, he's been cleared to go ahead and participate fully."

Chiefs fans are obviously thrilled that Mahomes is already cleared for training camp. The rest of the NFL world, however, is trying to figure out how he already recovered from a torn ACL.
"We have never seen a QB like him," one fan said.
"Man is on a mission to remind people who he is," a Chiefs fan declared.
"Tore his acl same day as Micah parsons and one cleared before training camp and one isn’t playing the first month of football," another fan pointed out.
"How is this even possible," another NFL fan asked.
Will Mahomes be ready for Week 1?
Even though Mahomes has been cleared for the start of training camp, Reid isn't ready to announce his star quarterback's status for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.
"I’m optimistic, and I know he is extremely optimistic," Reid told reporters. "But I think you’ve got to see how things go here. Let’s just see where we’re at and not make any predictions or anything else. Take it day by day and see where it goes."
As long as Mahomes doesn't suffer a setback over the next five weeks or so, he should be in line to start Week 1.
We're certainly hoping Mahomes stays healthy this fall.
