Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has revealed that Gold Glove outfielder Sal Frelick is expected to return during the team’s upcoming series against the New York Mets at Citi Field.
Frelick has been sidelined since July 17 with a right shoulder strain but is nearing the end of his minor league rehabilitation assignment. Murphy confirmed he will not return during Milwaukee’s current homestand, telling reporters, “I think you’ll see Sal in New York.”
Frelick’s return would give the NL Central-leading Brewers another elite defensive option as they prepare for the final stretch of the season.
Frelick has appeared in 90 games this season, hitting .236 with a .301 on-base percentage, four home runs, 34 RBIs and six stolen bases. While his offensive production has dipped, his defensive value and base-running remain important pieces of Milwaukee’s roster.
He has also looked productive during his rehab assignment with the Nashville Sounds, batting .281 with a .410 OBP and .563 slugging percentage across nine games. Frelick added two home runs and five RBIs during that stretch.
His return could significantly strengthen an already deep Brewers outfield. Jackson Chourio has continued to provide major production, hitting .280 with 17 home runs, 64 RBIs and 13 stolen bases, while Frelick’s defensive ability gives Murphy another versatile option.

The Brewers enter the stretch run with an 80-49 record and a commanding position atop the NL Central. Milwaukee has also gone 44-23 at home and owns playoff odds above 99.9%, according to the information provided.
Frelick’s return would give the Brewers another weapon for the postseason push, particularly with his Gold Glove-caliber defense. If his rehab continues without a setback, Milwaukee could have him back in the lineup when it travels to New York.
