It’s been four months since Pat McAfee last appeared in WWE following a stipulation where he would leave the company if Randy Orton lost at WrestleMania to Cody Rhodes. But will McAfee keep his word?
If you ask him, he certainly intends to. During a recent Instagram post, McAfee reiterated that he would “never” go on WWE television again as a result of that match stipulation. He then declared that wrestling fans can “sleep soundly” knowing that he won’t be coming back.
“If Randy would’ve won, maybe. But I made a promise that I would never, eeeeeever be seen on WWE television ever again. And Cody Rhodes won, he is the one. What a dog he turned out to be. Maybe he was the right one all along. Maybe I was wrong with what I was saying. But no, wrestling fans can sleep soundly understanding that I will never be back over there,” McAfee said.
True or Work?
WWE fans were pretty much divided into two camps in response to McAfee’s remarks: Fans that are glad to see him gone and fans that believe this is just a work and that he’ll be back soon.
“Pretty sure he’s ‘in character’ BUT i pray he’s telling the truth,” one user replied on X.
“That means he will be on WWE TV again within a month,” another wrote.
“Gonna need that in writing, Pat,” a third remarked.
“Didn’t he say that last time and then TKO threw a bag at him and and he got dahn with that?”
“Love Pat but the negativity and hate he draws just isn’t worth it. I’ll catch him on his show or Gameday.”

McAfee’s plate has gotten a little too full anyway. In the years since he first starting doing his WWE work he’s been given countless new roles at ESPN centering on their football coverage.
While ESPN may have partnerships with WWE in place, the network will probably be loathe to giving McAfee more work that’s outside of their direct sphere.
But it is WWE and you can never really say never when it comes to pro wrestling.
