The Carolina Panthers are gearing up to play the Cleveland Browns in NFL Week 3.
This is a big game for Carolina as they look to keep their positive momentum going. Unfortunately, the team is dealing with some real injury issues and, as a result, had to make some roster moves on Saturday.
The team chose two players to elevate to the active roster, added one player to injured reserve, and signed a player to the active roster to fill that open spot.
Now, let’s go over the moves and see what they mean.
Panthers Elevate David Moore and Anthony Tyus III
In the first two weeks, the Panthers elevated outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon and defensive back Isaiah Simmons. However, Simmons has since been signed to the active roster, and Moon wasn’t needed this week.
The elevations of Moore and Tyus are strictly due to injuries. Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette are both questionable for Week 3, so receiver depth is needed. Moore is an experienced veteran and a favorite of Dave Canales, so he’s a seamless addition.
Tyus, meanwhile, is necessary because Chuba Hubbard and A.J. Dillon are the only healthy running backs on the roster. Jonathon Brooks was added to injured reserve this week, and Trevor Etienne is still on injured reserve from a preseason injury.
Claudin Cherelus Added to IR, Maema Njongmeta Signed
Claudin Cherelus was on the injury report all week, and apparently it’s a real injury. The linebacker will now have to miss at least the next four games.
To fill that void, the team is signing Maema Njongmeta to the active roster. Njongmeta was recently added to the practice squad after spending the summer and preseason with the Panthers. Njongmeta had some nice preseason games but barely missed the final cut.
Devin Lloyd has already been ruled out for this game, so the Panthers are thin at linebacker even with Njongmeta. Bobby Okereke, Jackson Kuwatch, Tyrel Dodson, and Njongmeta will be the team’s linebackers on Sunday.
