Xavier Legette is one of the players on the Panthers under the most scrutiny.
As a former first-round pick, the receiver has been blasted for not even coming close to living up to that status. Thus, 2026 is seen as a make-or-break year for the receiver, as the Panthers can’t just sit around and wait for him to develop forever.
In Week 1, the Panthers’ offense was explosive. Jalen Coker had a career game, Bryce Young made plenty of plays, and even the tight end room made several plays. Legette, meanwhile, somehow contributed nothing despite Young throwing for 361 yards.
Is one game going to be the final straw?
Panthers Urged to Ship Legette to Ravens

Mike Moraitis of Panthers OnSI recently floated the idea of shipping Legette to the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens had a great Week 1 showing, but their receiver core is a little banged up.
Rookie Ja’Kobi Lane left Week 1 early and it was later revealed that he fractured his wrist. The rookie will definitely miss some time, and fellow receiver Zay Flowers also left early with a hamstring injury.
As a result, the Ravens could be tempted to add a healthy body to the room, and Legette is probably still intriguing as a former top pick.
“Despite the Panthers dropping 361 passing yards and 37 points, Legette was blanked with zero receptions on two targets, and he was responsible for the team’s only drop of the afternoon,” Moraitis explained.
If Coker and McMillan are going to keep playing like this, there may not be a need for Legette anyway.
“Legette has been a total bust over his two-plus years in the NFL, with the former No. 32 overall pick tallying just 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in that span,” Moraitis said. “When you talk about players who need a change of scenery, Legette is the textbook definition of that.”
It’s definitely true that a change of scenery couldn’t hurt. Legette is running out of chances, and with Coker only getting better, he may not get the necessary targets in Carolina to prove himself.
Of course, the Panthers can’t expect to get much in exchange for Legette. As Moraitis pointed out, Legette has been a bust, so there’s no chance the team gets an early pick. Moving on would solely be for the purpose of moving on.
