Dallas Goedert caught six passes for 61 yards against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and two days later his name surfaced as a trade target for them. Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame ranked the Philadelphia Eagles tight end No. 11 among 15 players who could be dealt by the Nov. 10 deadline and listed Carolina as a potential fit.
Verderame called Goedert “a useful player with a ton of postseason experience,” and the numbers agree. Goedert has played in 13 playoff games, catching 56 passes for 595 yards and five touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference. He has played in two Super Bowls, winning one after the 2024 season. That resume would carry weight in Charlotte, where the 3-2 Panthers sit atop the NFC South after their 25-14 win in Philadelphia.
Where Goedert fits in Carolina’s offense
Carolina’s tight ends have produced in pieces. Tommy Tremble leads the group with 15 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns, both Sunday. Darren Waller, who turned 34 in September, has 13 catches for 148 yards and two scores but was held without a catch on two targets against the Eagles. Bryce Young threw for 281 yards Sunday, and only 46 of them went to tight ends.
Panthers coach Dave Canales wanted competition in the room when Waller signed in August. “The goal is throw him into that room and challenge that tight end room and see which guys want to elevate,” Canales said, via the Associated Press. Goedert would raise that bar again. He owns a 77.2 overall grade this season, sixth among tight ends, and has not dropped a pass, according to PFF.
Durability is the main concern. Goedert is 31, has not reached 600 receiving yards since 2022 and missed at least three games in three of the past four seasons. He sat out two more games this year after spraining his MCL against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2.
The price should be manageable. Goedert returned on a one-year, $7 million deal, and his base salary is $1.3 million, according to Over the Cap. Carolina would absorb only the unpaid portion, which matters for a team with $919,850 in cap space.
The 2-4 Eagles, who could be without Jalen Hurts for the rest of the season because of blood clots in his lungs, have already traded center Cam Jurgens. A modest pick for Goedert would hand Young a playoff-tested target for a division race.
