The Carolina Panthers cannot catch a break this summer.

The team started off training camp in the worst way possible, as second-year edge rusher Nic Scourton went down with a knee injury. It was later confirmed that Scourton and rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell II would be out for the entire 2026 season.

This is on top of the news that the team will be without both starting tackles, Taylor Moton and Ikem Ekwonu, and starting defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton, for the foreseeable future.

Well, the Panthers received another scare on Tuesday. Wide receiver Xavier Legette, who is the favorite to claim the WR3 role after Brazzell went down, was carted off the field after taking an awkward fall.

Let's find out what we know about the injury as of now.

Dave Canales Speaks on Legette's Injury

Legette's injury occurred as he went up to catch a ball in the back of the endzone on Tuesday morning. The receiver landed awkwardly on his back and head and was having a hard time getting up.

Fortunately, it seems like the worst-case scenario was avoided.

"Went in, evaluated him. Cleared him of concussion, but looks like a stinger," Canales told reporters. "So, we're gonna evaluate him over the next day or so and just make sure that he's in the right spot."

A stinger would be the best-case scenario, as usually they resolve quickly after resting. The Panthers have brought out the cart four times during camp, and two of the injuries were serious (Scourton and Brazzell), and two were non-serious (Mitchell Evans and Legette).

Even before this injury, Legette was not expected to play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.

Panthers Seemingly Avoid WR Disaster

As mentioned above, Legette is the favorite to be the WR3 in 2026. That's not even just because of Brazzell's injury, either, as Legette has legitimately been good this summer.

The receiver has had a great camp, which is encouraging given how disappointing his first two seasons were. A serious injury would have been devastating, as Legette is entering a make-or-break season, and the Panthers need him to play a big role.

The Panthers have Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker at the top of the depth chart, but it would be nice if a third receiver would step up. Behind Legette, the Panthers have Jimmy Horn Jr., David Moore, and Brycen Tremayne, among others, fighting for spots.
