Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark may be rivals in the WNBA, but they are now playing alongside each other for Team USA. The WNBA stars are part of the national team’s FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup lineup, allowing fans to see them as teammates.
The Dallas Wings guard spoke highly of the Indiana Fever star, sharing her thoughts about Clark’s game. Bueckers highlighted the three-time All-Star’s skill set and their on-court chemistry.
“It’s just organic,” Bueckers said. “We know how to play well off of each other. We are both smart basketball players that know how to play.
“She just makes the game easy. Being able to cut, play off the ball, get to my spots. She draws so much defensive attention, so a lot of the defense is worried about her. It lets her teammates get open, and she has great vision as well.”
Clark impressed fans and analysts alike in Team USA’s 94-61 win over China on Friday. She finished with 14 points, three rebounds, 11 assists and three three-pointers.
The 24-year-old made history by dishing out the most assists by an American in her World Cup debut. Bueckers supported her with 14 points, four assists and two steals, while Rhyne Howard and Jackie Young contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Team USA will continue to rely on its star backcourt duo. Their ability to score in different ways and high basketball IQs will be pivotal in the national team’s quest for a fifth straight world championship.
